Our mission is to feed our community and build up our regional food system with plant-based whole foods.

Our foods are healthy for bodies and community. Our three “super-guiding” principles are product quality, environmental sustainability, and fair labor practice. What do these things mean to us?

Product quality means our product is consistently delicious and has balanced nutritional content. It means we serve it with pride in our own home, that the claims we make match the reality, and that it is safe and hygienic.

Fair labor practice means that we are committed to providing fair wages, reasonable hours and benefits, safe conditions, paid sick leave, and a family- and union-friendly work environment. We believe in limited pay disparity between owners and employees and equal opportunity to advance; we’re committed to affirmative action.

Environmental sustainability means we do our best to limit packaging and look for packaging that is recycled, reusable, recyclable and/or compostable. We prioritize local suppliers/producers, and we look for suppliers that practice organic methods and energy sustainability. We strive to reduce transportation and environmental cost of ingredients, and to minimize water usage.

Are we there yet?

We are on a journey to make Superior Small Batch the best it can be. We don’t claim to have figured out how to achieve all our aspirations yet, but whenever we make a business decision, we always stop and ask ourselves how that decision can be made in a way that brings us closer to our goals. One important example is our support of the Duluth Safe and Sick Time ordinance.

SSB Superstar Peter grinding up a batch of Heartyburger,

We envision a region where the creation of food is valued and the work of many hands; where this work is done with respect for the earth and Indigenous knowledge; where people are well-fed, and our diet contributes to the health of our cultural and natural environment.
